"History and Highlights of the “Cherokee” Shale play in Ellis & Roger Mills Counties, Oklahoma" - Tiffany Stephens, Exploration Manager, Duncan Oil Properties, Inc.

Abstract

Since the start of Mewbourne’s shale play, Duncan has researched vertical cuttings, core data, production data from the major operators, mudlogs, and other geological data.  They have mapped Ellis County with different techniques, performed Delta Log R (Passey Method) calculations, and also looked at pressure and maturity data.  While this play is still being actively drilled and evaluated, Duncan will share the history of the play and what they’ve learned so far in Ellis and Roger Mills Counties, OK.  The tectonic, depositional, and stratigraphic settings will be briefly discussed along with some of the unique mineralogy present in Ellis County.  They will also share the results of their two “Cherokee” shale horizontals drilled under Cleveland/Marmaton wells in Ellis County, and their drilling issues and successes.
